    Chocolate Cauliflower Smoothie

This chocolate cauliflower smoothie is rich, creamy, and packed with veggies—perfect for a quick breakfast or snack that tastes like dessert.

I love adding cauliflower to recipes, not to "sneak" in veggies, but because it's mild and blends super smoothly when frozen. Paired with chocolate protein powder and nut butter, it gives that thick milkshake texture without the heavy feeling.

If you’ve never added cauliflower to a smoothie, this is your sign. I promise you can’t taste it, and it adds thickness, fiber, and a little extra nutrition boost! You'll love it in my Kiwi Banana Smoothie too!

    Ingredients

blender filled cauliflower, spinach, dates, almond butter protein powder and milk
    • Frozen cauliflower - adds creaminess and fiber
    • Milk - use dairy or plant-based milk depending on your preference.
    • Chocolate protein powder - for the rich chocolatey taste. I'm a big fan of Quest Chocolate Milkshake, but you can use whatever you have on hand.
    • Spinach - a handful of frozen or fresh spinach adds iron and folate
    • Nut butter - almond, peanut butter, or sunflower seed butter all work for healthy fats and flavor.
    • Pitted date - for natural sweetness.
    • Optional - espresso powder, cinnamon, vanilla extract, or chia seeds.

    Instructions

frozen cauliflower and greek yogurt in a blender
    1. Step 1: Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender.

    1. Step 2: Blend until smooth.

Pro-tip: meal prep your smoothies for a quick, balanced breakfast throughout the week. Portion out your cauliflower, spinach, date, and almond butter into bags or jars and freeze. In the morning, add your liquids (milk or yogurt) and mix-ins (protein powder), blend & serve!

    Substitutions

    • To make dairy-free - substitute with your favorite plant-based milk, yogurt and protein powder.
    • To make nut-free - use sunflower seed butter.
    • This recipe is naturally vegetarian and gluten-free. To make it vegan, use a plant-based protein powder and non-dairy milk.

    Variations

Make this veggie packed smoothie even better with these delicious combos.

    • Peanut butter cup - swap almond butter for sunflower seed or peanut butter.
    • Chonky Monkey - add ½ a frozen banana + peanut butter.
    • Vanilla swirl - mix in vanilla protein powder + a dash of cinnamon + vanilla extract.
    • Mocha twist - add 1 tablespoon of espresso powder.

    Equipment

    1 blender

    Top Tip

    • Use frozen cauliflower. This will make the smoothie extra smooth and creamy when blended (no ice needed!). Frozen cauliflower rice also works, but it may not blend as well.
    • Add some sweetness. Cauliflower doesn't have much flavor, that's why I added a date for natural sweetness. You can also add banana or a drizzle of maple syrup.
    • Use plenty of liquid! Don’t be afraid of adding a little extra milk to your frozen cauliflower smoothie. Cauliflower can be a tough veggie to blend, so you will need to use plenty of liquid.
